THE SISU STORY
Hi, I’m Madeline - the face behind SISU Pilates. I’m a BASI certified Pilates instructor with advanced certification in pre and postnatal work and a soloist ballerina with the Estonian National Ballet. I’ve spent over 15 years performing professionally with companies across the U.S. and Europe, developing a deep respect for the body’s resilience and need for precise, thoughtful care.
My path into Pilates education is inseparable from my personal journey. After over 15 years of pilates practice, I completed my BASI comprehensive teacher training while pregnant. At 30 weeks pregnant, I experienced a severe ankle trauma that required two surgeries within two years. Navigating birth, postpartum and surgical rehabilitation simultaneously gave me an intimate understanding of how vulnerable, and how strong the body can be during times of transition.
That lived experience now shapes everything I do and is the foundation of SISU Pilates. SISU means courage and quiet determination, and that definition is at the heart of why I teach and the intention I bring into every session.
I specialize in one-on-one Pilates because I’ve felt firsthand how transformative individualized support can be - not only for physical recovery, but also for the emotional landscape of pregnancy and postpartum, which can often feel isolating. Whether you’re preparing for birth, rebuilding strength after delivery, recovering from injury, or simply seeking intelligent, personalized movement, my work is grounded in empathy, precision, and trust.
My teaching blends classical Pilates principles with contemporary knowledge of anatomy, rehabilitation, and nervous system regulation. Sessions are tailored carefully to your body, your history, and your goals - always honoring where you are today.
